Weather Watch: free weather safety game, read the forecast
UV 9, frost warning, 35 °C. Pick the smart move for each forecast.
What is Weather Watch?
The weather is one of the most searched topics in the world. Thumby reads a forecast (a high UV index, frost, a heatwave, thunderstorms, fog, a flood warning) and you pick the smart, safe move out of four, as many as you can in 60 seconds.
Weather Watch is a free 60-second game about acting on the forecast. Thumby shows a forecast and a situation (a UV index of 9 at a picnic, frost before the school run, thunder during a match, a flooded road) and you pick the smart move out of four. Every answer explains why.
Three levels go from everyday forecasts to storms, ice and heat, then trickier calls: sunscreen after swimming, a car stuck in snow, a thunderstorm warning versus a watch. UV questions use the WHO UV index bands.

Each right answer scores 10, 15 or 20 points by level plus up to 5 for answering within 4 seconds, multiplied by your streak: ×2 after 5 right in a row, ×3 after 10, ×4 after 15. The level goes up every 6 right answers.

What it trains
- Reading a forecast
- What a UV index, a 'feels like' temperature or a warning really asks of you.
- Weather safety
- The right reflex for heat, cold, storms and floods.
- Calm decisions
- Picking the safe move fast, even when the wrong one sounds tempting.
Strategy and tips
- Know the UV bands
- 0–2 low, 3–5 moderate, 6–7 high, 8–10 very high, 11+ extreme. Protect your skin from 3.
- Clouds don't stop UV
- Up to 80% of UV gets through light cloud, and snow reflects up to 80%.
- When thunder roars
- Go indoors, and wait 30 minutes after the last thunder.
- Turn around
- Never drive or walk through flood water.
- Heat and cold
- Drink before you're thirsty; in cold wind, cover every bit of skin.
Why play Weather Watch?
Most weather harm comes from small decisions: skipping sunscreen on a cloudy day, sheltering under a tree, driving into a flooded road. Practising the right reflex in a game makes it easier to reach for when the forecast turns.
