Reflex Grid: free reaction time game, tap the lit tiles
Squares light up faster and faster. Hit them before they fade, skip the red ones.
What is Reflex Grid?
Thumby lights up a 4×4 grid. Tap the yellow tiles before they fade and skip the red ones marked ✕. Tiles light faster and stay lit for less time as the minute runs out. Hits in a row build a combo up to ×4; a red tap costs 2 seconds.
Reflex Grid is a free 60-second reaction game with Thumby. Yellow tiles light up on a 4×4 grid and fade after a moment: tap them before they go. Red tiles marked with a cross light up too, and those are decoys. Tapping one costs 2 seconds and your combo.
The minute speeds up as it goes: tiles appear more often, more stay lit at once, and the time each one stays lit shrinks from about 1.5 seconds to under 0.7. Fast taps earn a speed bonus, and hits in a row build a combo multiplier up to ×4. On a keyboard, the 4×4 block of keys under your left hand plays the grid.

Scoring
Each lit tile you hit scores 10 points plus up to 10 for speed, multiplied by your combo: ×2 after 5 hits in a row, ×3 after 10, ×4 after 15.
A red tile costs 2 seconds and your combo; a missed tile or an empty tap resets the combo. Your best score is kept in this browser.
What it trains
- Reaction speed
- Tapping a target the moment it appears, with windows that shrink from 1.5 s to under 0.7 s.
- Impulse control
- Holding back from red decoys even at full speed.
- Peripheral vision
- Catching tiles anywhere on the grid without hunting for them.
Strategy and tips
- Look at the middle
- Keep your eyes on the centre of the grid and let your side vision catch the corners.
- Check the symbol
- Yellow tiles show a dot, red ones a cross. If you're unsure, skip: a fade costs less than a red tap.
- Don't tap ahead
- Tapping an empty tile resets your combo, so wait for the light.
- Protect the combo
- ×4 is worth four times a single hit. A steady streak beats a few frantic taps.
- Learn the keys
- 1 2 3 4, Q W E R, A S D F and Z X C V map the rows, top to bottom.
Why play Reflex Grid?
Reflex Grid trains two things that pull against each other: reacting fast to the right signal and holding back from the wrong one. Psychologists call the second impulse control, or response inhibition. Practising both in short rounds sharpens speed without turning every reaction into a reflex.
Frequently asked questions
Is Reflex Grid free?
Yes. It is free and runs in your browser, with no download. Signing up is optional.
What do the red tiles do?
They're decoys. Tapping one takes 2 seconds off the clock and resets your combo. Let them fade and nothing happens.
Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. Keys 1 2 3 4, Q W E R, A S D F and Z X C V tap the grid row by row (by key position, so it works on other layouts too), or Tab to a tile and press Enter or Space.
Does it work with reduced motion?
Yes. If your device asks for reduced motion, tiles simply appear and disappear without pop or float effects.
