Typo Hunter: free proofreading game, spot typos in 60 seconds

Sixty seconds, one paragraph, hidden typos. Tap every mistake before the clock runs out.

What is Typo Hunter?

Thumby wrote some notes in a hurry. Each short paragraph hides 3 to 5 typos: tap every misspelt word to fix it, and a new paragraph appears once you've found them all. Tapping a word that's spelt right costs a point. You have 60 seconds.

Typo Hunter is a free proofreading game. Each round shows a short everyday paragraph (a note about the weekend, a message about the shopping, a line about the office printer) with 3 to 5 typos hidden in it. Tap every misspelt word to fix it; once you've found them all, a new paragraph appears.

You have 60 seconds. Each typo you find scores a point and each false tap on a correctly spelt word takes one away, so guessing doesn't pay. Spelling is UK English, so words like colour, neighbour and practise are right. If a paragraph has you stuck, Skip shows the typos you missed and moves on.

How to play

Hunt
Read the paragraph and tap every misspelt word. Spelling is UK English, so colour and neighbour are right.
Fix
A typo you find turns green and shows the right spelling. Find them all and the next paragraph appears.
Careful
Tapping a word that's spelt right is a false tap and costs a point. Stuck? Skip shows the typos you missed.
Score
Typos found minus false taps, never below 0. Tab or the arrow keys move between words, Enter taps.

Scoring

Each typo you find scores 1 point; each tap on a word that's spelt right costs 1 point. The score never drops below 0.

The run lasts 60 seconds. Each paragraph hides 3 to 5 typos (UK spelling); find them all for the next one, or skip it to see what you missed. Your best score is kept in this browser.

What it trains

Proofreading
Seeing the letters actually on the page, not the word you expect.
Attention to detail
Spotting a swapped, doubled or missing letter in a sentence you read fast.
Accuracy under pressure
Holding back a guess when a false tap costs as much as a find earns.

Strategy and tips

Read word by word
Your brain fills in what it expects. Slow down just enough to see each word's letters.
Watch the usual suspects
Swapped letters (hte), doubled ones (tommorow) and missing ones (evry) are the most common typos.
Count down
The counter shows how many typos are left. If one remains, scan for the word that looks slightly off.
Don't guess
A false tap costs as much as a find earns. When unsure, read the word again.
Skip smart
If a paragraph stalls you, skip it. Seeing the missed typos trains your eye for next time.

Why play Typo Hunter?

Proofreading is a skill you use every day, in emails, messages and documents. Hunting typos against the clock trains you to notice what's actually on the page instead of what you expect to see, without slowing you down.

Frequently asked questions
