Caption Crafter: free caption writing game
Build the caption: hook, value, call to action. Keep it under the limit.
What is Caption Crafter?
A bakery, a walking club, a game studio: each needs a caption. Pick a hook, a value line and a call to action while a live counter watches the app's character limit and the feed cuts your caption with "… more". Eight posts, from roomy photo captions to tight 120-character text posts.
Caption Crafter is a free caption writing game. A bakery, a walking club, a plant shop or a tiny game studio has a post ready on a made-up app like Snapgram, ClipTok or Chirpr. You build its caption from three lines: a hook, a value line and a call to action, each picked from three options.
A live preview shows the caption the way a feed would, cut after a few dozen characters with "… more", and a counter tracks the app's character limit. Wordy lines blow the limit, greetings push the hook out of sight, and "LIKE COMMENT SHARE" flops. Every pick is explained when you post.

How to play
- Read the post
- Each post has a picture or video, an account and the audience it's for, on a made-up app with its own character limit.
- Build the caption
- Pick a hook, a value line and a call to action. The preview shows where the feed cuts it with "… more", and the counter shows the length.
- Stay under the limit
- A caption over the limit won't post and costs one of 3 lives, and so does a flop line or running out of time.
- Score
- 100 per best line, 40 per okay line, +30 when the whole hook shows before "… more", +50 for three best lines.
Scoring
Each post scores 100 per best line, 40 per okay line and 0 for a flop, +30 when the whole hook shows before "… more" and +50 for three best lines.
A caption over the character limit doesn't post and scores nothing. Going over, a flop line or running out of time costs one of 3 lives. Your best score is kept in this browser.
What it trains
- Caption writing
- Hook, value and call to action, in that order.
- Concise copy
- Saying the same thing in fewer characters to fit a limit.
- Calls to action
- Asking for one easy, specific action instead of engagement bait.
Strategy and tips
- Front-load the hook
- The feed only shows the start. Put the interesting part (the result, the number) first, not a greeting.
- Name one concrete thing
- "Only 40 a day, made with brown butter" beats "very tasty". Specific details give a reason to care.
- Ask for one easy action
- Save it, reply with your favourite, join on Monday. One clear step beats asking for everything.
- Skip the bait
- "Comment YES", "tag 10 friends or bad luck" and follow-for-follow push people away.
- Watch the counter
- On short-text apps, a wordy line can eat half the limit on its own. Shorter often says more.
Why play Caption Crafter?
A caption decides whether people stop, understand and act, and most of it is never seen unless the first line earns a tap on "… more". Writing within a limit teaches the core of copywriting: lead with the hook, give one concrete reason to care and end with one easy next step. Caption Crafter practises exactly that, with instant feedback on every line.
Frequently asked questions
Is Caption Crafter free?
Yes. It is free and runs in your browser, with no download. Signing up is optional.
How is it different from Hook Duel?
Hook Duel compares two finished hooks. Caption Crafter makes you assemble a whole caption (hook, value and call to action) and fit it under a character limit and a feed preview.
Are the apps and limits real?
No. Snapgram, ClipTok and Chirpr, their accounts and their limits are made up for the game. The writing advice is general.
Can I play with a keyboard or a screen reader?
Yes. Every line is a button with its full text and length, the caption length is announced after each pick, and the result of each post is read out.
