Analytics Decoder: free social media analytics game
Reach, impressions, engagement rate. Read the dashboard and pick what to post next.
What is Analytics Decoder?
Ten made-up creator dashboards, each with three or four posts and their reach, impressions, likes, comments, shares and saves. Answer one question per dashboard: which post reached the most people, what's this engagement rate, how often did each person see it, which post engaged best, and what to post more of for a given goal. Every answer is worked out with the real formula.
Analytics Decoder is a free game about reading social media insights. Each round shows a made-up creator's dashboard with three or four posts, a reel, a carousel, a photo or a text post, and their reach, impressions, likes, comments, shares and saves. You answer one question per dashboard, from "which post reached the most people?" to "what should you post more of?".
The numbers are random each run, so you can't memorise answers, and every explanation shows the working: engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ reach × 100, impressions ÷ reach for how often people saw a post. Early dashboards add up the interactions for you; later ones leave the sums to you.

How to play
- Read the dashboard
- Reach is how many different people saw a post. Impressions is how many times it was shown in total.
- Use the formula
- Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ reach × 100. It compares big and small posts fairly.
- Answer
- Tap an option or press 1 to 4. Later dashboards drop the interactions total, so you add it up yourself.
- Score
- 100 per right answer, +10 per right answer in a row (up to +50). A wrong answer costs one of 3 lives.
Scoring
Each right answer scores 100 points, plus 10 for every right answer in a row before it (up to 50). A perfect run of 10 dashboards scores 1,350.
A wrong answer costs one of your 3 lives. There's no timer: take the time to do the sums.
What it trains
- Reach vs impressions
- Telling how many people saw a post from how many times it was shown.
- Engagement rate
- Working out (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ reach × 100 and comparing posts fairly.
- Goal-driven decisions
- Picking what to post next by the number that matches the goal.
Strategy and tips
- Reach is people, impressions are views
- One person can see a post three times: that's 1 reach and 3 impressions. For "how many people", read reach.
- Compare rates, not totals
- A big post gets more likes just by being big. Engagement rate shows which post people actually cared about.
- Count every interaction
- Comments, shares and saves count as much as likes in the formula. Leaving them out undersells a post.
- Start from the goal
- Want new people? Look at reach. Want a closer audience? Look at engagement rate. The best format depends on the goal.
- Estimate first
- Round the numbers in your head: 750 interactions on 7,200 reach is a bit over 10%.
Why play Analytics Decoder?
Every creator and social media manager reads dashboards, and the most common mistakes are mixing up reach and impressions or comparing raw likes between posts of different sizes. Practising the formula on fresh numbers each run makes the habit stick: decide by the number that matches your goal.
Frequently asked questions

Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. Keys 1 to 4 pick an answer, and each explanation is read out for screen readers.
