Speed Processing: free symbol–digit coding game to train speed
Symbol to digit, as fast as you can.
What is Speed Processing?
A code key pairs symbols with digits. Type the digit for each symbol as fast as you can for 90 seconds. Five right in a row adds a symbol to the key, and from level 4 the key reshuffles now and then.
Speed Processing is a free symbol–digit coding game. A key at the top pairs symbols (a star, a moon, a heart…) with digits. A symbol appears, and you type its digit, by tapping the keypad or pressing the number key, as fast and as accurately as you can for 90 seconds.
The game adapts as you play. Five right answers in a row add a symbol to the key and raise the points per answer; a slip takes one away. From level 4 the key reshuffles every few symbols, so you have to read it again instead of running on memory.

How to play
- Read the key
- Each symbol in the key has a digit from 1 to 9.
- Code the symbol
- Tap the digit for the big symbol, or press the number key.
- Climb
- Five right in a row adds a symbol to the key; a slip takes one away. Higher levels score more.
- Watch for reshuffles
- From level 4 the key changes every few symbols: read it again before you type.
Scoring
Each right answer scores 5 + 5 × your level: 10 points at level 1, up to 35 at level 6. Wrong answers score 0.
Five right in a row climbs a level (one more symbol in the key); a wrong answer drops one. From level 4 the key reshuffles every few symbols. The run lasts 90 seconds.
What it trains
- Processing speed
- Reading a code and responding quickly and accurately.
- Focus
- Staying accurate while the clock runs.
- Working memory
- Holding symbol–digit pairs in mind, and letting go when the key reshuffles.
Strategy and tips
- Glance, don't stare
- Find the symbol in the key with one quick look, then type.
- Learn the key as you go
- After a few symbols, the pairs start to stick: trust them.
- Accuracy first
- A slip drops a level, which costs more than a short pause.
- Watch for reshuffles
- From level 4 the key changes: a quick reread beats a wrong digit.
- Keep your hand on the keys
- On a keyboard, rest your fingers on 1–9 to save travel time.
Why play Speed Processing?
Coding tasks like this one are a classic way to practise processing speed: reading, matching and responding quickly. It's a short, focused drill, and the adaptive key keeps it from turning into pure memory.
Frequently asked questions
Is Speed Processing free?
Yes. It is free and runs in your browser, with no download. Signing up is optional.
Does it measure my IQ?
No. It's a training game with a progress score and a level, not a test. It shows no IQ number.
How is the score counted?
Each right answer scores 5 + 5 × your level (10 at level 1, 35 at level 6). Wrong answers score nothing and drop a level.
Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. Press 1–9 for the digits; on a phone, tap the keypad.
