Deal or Walk: free negotiation game, hold your price and close

The client wants a discount. Choose your replies, hold your value, and close without giving it all away.

What is Deal or Walk?

Three clients, three discount requests: a bakery's website, a software licence, a startup's logo. Pick your replies, keep your price and the client's trust, then take, counter or walk away from the final offer.

Deal or Walk is a free negotiation and sales game. Three clients want a discount: a bakery owner on a website redesign, a procurement manager on a software licence, a startup founder on a logo. Each deal has four exchanges, and every reply moves two meters: the price you keep and the client's trust.

At the end comes the final offer. Take it, counter if trust is high enough, or walk away. Your walk-away point is shown from the start: below it, walking is the right call. Each reply comes with a coaching line on why it works or backfires.

How to play

Reply
Each deal has four exchanges. Ask, trade, defend your value… or cave and push too hard.
Watch two meters
Price kept and client trust. Giving discounts for nothing lowers the price; being hostile lowers trust.
Final offer
Take it, counter (needs high trust) or walk away. Below your walk-away point, walking is the right call.
Score
The share of the price you kept plus trust, for each deal. Every reply comes with a coaching tip.

Strategy and tips

Ask before you give
A question about budget or priorities beats an instant discount.
Trade, don't cave
Every concession should buy something: a faster signature, a longer contract, a smaller scope.
Cut scope, not rate
Offer less work at your price instead of the same work for less.
Compare value
When a competitor is cheaper, make the differences visible instead of matching the number.
Know your walk-away point
Set it before you start. No deal beats a deal that loses you money.

Why play Deal or Walk?

Freelancers, salespeople and founders lose money mostly by discounting too fast. Practising the replies in a low-stakes game makes the right reflexes easier to reach for in a real conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Deal or Walk free?

Yes. It is free and runs in your browser, with no download. Signing up is optional.

Is walking away ever the best move?

Yes. When the final offer is below your walk-away point, walking scores better than closing.

What does trust do?

Trust shapes the final offer and decides whether a counter-offer works. Push too hard and the client leaves.

Are the clients real?

No. The deals and people are made up to practise common negotiation situations.
