Zombie Budget: free Halloween money game to stop budget leaks

Your money keeps coming back from the dead: forgotten subscriptions, impulse buys, sneaky fees. Keep your budget alive for four nights.

What is Zombie Budget?

Four nights, four waves of zombie expenses: free trials turning paid, auto-renewals, late fees, "just this once" buys and the Halloween costume rush. Cancel, pause, set a reminder, pay or plan for each one, keep your example $400 wallet alive and reach the $200 savings goal by dawn.

Zombie Budget is a free Halloween money game. For four nights, zombie expenses shamble toward your wallet: a free trial about to turn paid, a yearly renewal, a phone bill due today, a flash sale with a countdown, a last-minute costume with rush shipping. For each one you choose to cancel, pause, set a reminder, pay or plan for it.

Bad choices on recurring costs come back the next night and bite again, just like real money leaks. Each answer explains why: when to cancel, when pausing beats cancelling, why autopay stops late fees, and how a little saved each month turns a big bill into a calm one.

How to play

Four nights
Each night, four zombie expenses shamble toward your wallet. All amounts are examples.
Choose a move
Cancel, pause, set a reminder, pay or plan for it. Each zombie offers three of them.
They rise again
Let a recurring cost run, or miss a bill, and it bites again the next night.
Score
100 for the best move, 50 for an OK one. At dawn, +1 per dollar left and +200 for reaching the goal.

Scoring

Each zombie expense offers three moves: the best scores 100 points, an OK one 50, a bad one 0. A recurring cost you let run rises again and bites your wallet the next night.

At dawn, if your wallet survived, you get 1 point per dollar left and 200 more for keeping the $200 savings goal. An empty wallet ends the run. Your best score is kept in this browser.

What it trains

Spotting money leaks
Finding the trials, unused memberships and fees that quietly repeat every month.
Choosing the right move
Knowing when to cancel, pause, set a reminder, pay or plan, instead of cutting everything.
Planning ahead
Autopay for fixed bills, the 24-hour rule for impulse buys and a sinking fund for big bills you can see coming.

Strategy and tips

Cancel trials early
Many trials keep working until the end date, so cancel the day you start if you're unsure.
Pause the seasonal
A service you only use one month a year is cheaper paused than paid all year.
Autopay the fixed bills
Bills you always pay should pay themselves: late fees vanish.
Sleep on flash sales
The 24-hour rule beats any countdown timer.
Plan for the bills you can see
A yearly bill split into monthly savings never lands as a shock. That's a sinking fund.

Why play Zombie Budget?

Small leaks drain more money than big decisions, because they repeat quietly. Spotting them in a playful setting, with clear reasons for each move, makes it easier to find the ones in your own bank app.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zombie Budget free?

Yes. It is free and runs in your browser, with no download. Signing up is optional.

Are the prices real?

No. Every amount is an example in dollars, and every brand is made up.

Is cancelling always the best move?

No. Paying for something you use every day is fine. The game rewards stopping leaks, not cutting everything.

What's a sinking fund?

Money you set aside a little at a time for a bill you know is coming, like yearly insurance.
