Story Recall: free reading memory game, remember the details

Read a tiny story. Then answer five questions about who, what, when and how much.

What is Story Recall?

Five tiny everyday stories, each denser than the last: a lost umbrella, a garage sale, a hotel mix-up. Read before the bar drains, then answer five questions about the details once the story is gone.

Story Recall is a free memory game about reading. Each round shows a tiny everyday story of four to six sentences: a bake sale, a dentist appointment, a moving day. You have a few seconds to read it, scaled to its length, and then it disappears.

Next come five multiple-choice questions about the details: who did what, where, at what time, how many and how much. The wrong options are often other details from the same story, so a vague memory isn't enough. A run is five stories that get denser, with more names and numbers each time.

How to play

Read
A 4–6 sentence story shows for 13 to 27 seconds, longer for longer stories. Ready sooner? Press “I’m ready”.
Answer
The story hides. Five multiple-choice questions on names, places, times and amounts: tap or press 1–4.
Get denser
One light story, two medium, two dense: more names, more numbers, more to hold.
Score
10 points per right answer on a light story, 20 on medium, 30 on dense, plus up to 5 for answering fast.

Scoring

Each right answer earns 10 points on a light story, 20 on a medium one and 30 on a dense one, plus up to 5 points for answering within a few seconds. A wrong answer earns nothing.

A run is five stories (one light, two medium, two dense) with five questions each. A perfect run scores 675.

What it trains

Reading recall
Holding names, places, times and amounts after one quick read.
Active reading
Tagging who, what, where, when and how much as you go.
Working memory
Keeping more details in mind as the stories get denser.

Strategy and tips

Read for the 5 Ws
As you read, tag who, what, where, when and how much. Those are what the questions ask.
Say numbers in your head
Saying “twelve dollars, bay six” silently makes numbers stick better than just seeing them.
Picture the scene
A quick mental image of the place and people gives details somewhere to live.
Watch the look-alikes
Distractors swap details around: 412 for 214, Elm Road for Birch Close. Link each number to its thing.
Use all the time
Press “I’m ready” only when you've read the story twice. The fast-answer bonus is small next to a right answer.

Why play Story Recall?

Remembering what you read is a daily skill: instructions, emails, a recipe, the details of an appointment. Short stories with lots of specific facts train the habit of reading actively and holding several details at once, and denser stories gently push that capacity further.

Frequently asked questions
