Flash Grid: free visual memory game online, rules and tips
Tiles light up for a moment, then go dark. Tap every one you saw while the grid grows from 3×3 to 5×5.
What is Flash Grid?
Tiles light up for a moment, then go dark. Tap every tile that was lit. Each level adds one more, and the grid grows from 3×3 to 5×5.
Flash Grid is a pattern memory test turned into an arcade game. A few tiles flash yellow, the board goes dark, and you tap back every tile that was lit. Each level adds one more tile to remember, and the grid itself grows from 3×3 to 4×4 and then 5×5.
You have three lives. A mistake shows you the pattern you missed and deals a fresh one at the same level, so you can keep climbing. Your score is the number of levels you clear.

How to play
- Watch
- Some tiles light up in yellow. The more there are, the longer they stay.
- Tap
- When they go dark, tap every tile that was lit, in any order.
- Miss
- A wrong tile costs a life and shows the pattern; you get a new one at the same level.
- Climb
- Each cleared level adds a tile. Your score is the number of levels cleared.
Strategy and tips
- See shapes, not tiles
- Group the lit tiles into a shape (an L, a diagonal, a square). One shape is easier to remember than six separate tiles.
- Split the board
- On larger grids, remember the top half and the bottom half as two small patterns.
- Tap in a fixed order
- Order does not matter for the game, but always tapping top to bottom keeps you from skipping a tile.
- Don't rush the first tap
- When the tiles go dark you have all the time you need. Rebuild the picture in your head, then tap.
- Learn from misses
- After a wrong tap the pattern is shown: note what you forgot (usually a corner or an isolated tile).
Why play Flash Grid?
Flash Grid trains visuospatial working memory, the same skill measured by the classic Corsi block test: remembering where things are, not just what they are. It is the memory you use to read a map, find your car in a car park or keep track of a chessboard.
Because every level adds exactly one tile, it is easy to measure your progress from one session to the next.
