Pride History Timeline: free LGBTQ+ history game
Put key moments of LGBTQ+ history in order.
What is Pride History Timeline?
Five rounds of moments from LGBTQ+ history, from a Berlin committee in 1897 and the Stonewall uprising to the first same-sex marriages and new Pride flags. Tap each card into place, earliest first, then see every year and its story.
Pride History Timeline is a free history game for Pride Month. Each round deals a few well-documented moments from LGBTQ+ history, and you put them in order on a timeline, earliest first. Once you check, every card shows its year and a one-line explanation.
The moments run from 1897, when an early rights group was founded in Berlin, through the Stonewall uprising of 1969 and the first Pride marches a year later, to the first same-sex marriages in the Netherlands in 2001 and the Progress Pride flag of 2018. Every run draws different cards, so the story fills in a little more each time.

Strategy and tips
- Anchor on Stonewall
- The Stonewall uprising was in 1969 and the first Pride marches in 1970. Many cards fall either side of them.
- Groups before marches
- Early organisations, in Berlin, Chicago and San Francisco, mostly came before the big public marches.
- Flags are late
- The rainbow flag first flew in 1978, the transgender flag was designed in 1999, the Progress flag in 2018.
- Marriage is recent
- Same-sex marriage began in the Netherlands in 2001; every other card about marriage comes after it.
- Swap, don't restart
- Tap a placed card and then another place to swap the two.
Why play Pride History Timeline?
Ordering events is a good way to learn history: you have to think about causes and consequences, not just memorise dates. Seeing how organisations, protests, science and law followed one another helps you understand why Pride is celebrated in June and how much changed in just over a century.
