Midnight Escape Room: free Halloween logic game
Locked in the haunted library at midnight. Solve five riddles, codes and logic locks in ten minutes to escape.
What is Midnight Escape Room?
Later dozed off in the haunted library, and at midnight the door locked behind you both. One room, five locks: a riddle on the desk, a number pattern on the grandfather clock, a cipher on the globe, a logic puzzle on the bookshelf, and the door, whose code you build from the other four. Ten minutes before the ghost librarian's round.
Midnight Escape Room is a free Halloween logic game. You're locked in a haunted library with Later, and the ghost librarian comes back in ten minutes. Five locks stand between you and the corridor: a riddle on the reading desk, a number pattern on the grandfather clock, a shift cipher on the old globe, four books to order on the shelf, and the door.
Each of the first four locks drops a brass tag with a symbol and a digit, and the door's plaque tells you, with logic clues, in which order the digits go. Wrong answers cost 20 seconds and hints 30, and every lock explains its reasoning once it opens. Riddles, patterns, ciphers and clues change every night.

How to play
- Explore the room
- Five objects, five locks: a riddle, a number pattern, a cipher, a logic shelf and the door. Open them in any order; the door comes last.
- Collect the tags
- Each of the first four locks drops a brass tag with a symbol and a digit. The door's code is those digits, in the order its plaque describes.
- Watch the clock
- You have 10 minutes. A wrong answer costs 20 seconds and a hint costs 30.
- Score
- 200 per open lock, plus 2 per second left if you escape.
Scoring
Each lock you open scores 200 points. Escape through the door and you also get 2 points per second left on the 10-minute clock.
A wrong answer costs 20 seconds and a hint costs 30. If the time runs out, you keep the points for the locks you opened. Your best score is kept in this browser.
What it trains
- Deduction
- Ruling options out clue by clue until only one order fits.
- Pattern finding
- Spotting the rule behind a number sequence and a shift cipher.
- Thinking under time pressure
- Choosing which lock to try next, when to take a hint, and keeping calm as the clock runs.
Strategy and tips
- Open the easy locks first
- Any order works. Start with what clicks for you and come back to the hard one.
- Find the rule of a pattern
- Write the gaps or compare each number with the one before: doubling, adding, squares.
- Decode one letter at a time
- In a shift cipher, every letter moves by the same amount. Count back along the printed alphabet.
- Start with the strongest clue
- An end, a fixed spot or a 'directly right of' clue pins things down; test the softer clues after.
- Hints are cheaper than guesses
- A hint costs 30 seconds, and two wrong guesses cost 40.
Why play Midnight Escape Room?
Escape rooms are logic under pressure: spotting a rule, testing an idea, ruling options out and keeping a cool head while the clock runs. Each lock trains a different kind of reasoning, from lateral thinking in riddles to deduction from clues, and the explanations show the method, not just the answer.
