Countdown Sprint: free New Year game to focus under pressure
Ten seconds per round, ten quick tasks. Beat midnight.
What is Countdown Sprint?
It's one minute to midnight and there are ten quick tasks to clear, each with a new rule: tap every gold star, every date in January, every clock showing midnight; spell PARTY; count down from 6. Ten seconds each at most. Read the rule, nail it, beat midnight.
Countdown Sprint is a free one-minute New Year game. The clock says one minute to midnight and there are ten micro-tasks to clear, each with a brand-new rule: tap every time after 11:30 PM, every gold star, every drink, every date in January, every clock showing midnight; put the months or the evening's times in order; count down from 6; spell a party word.
Each task has at most ten seconds, and the midnight clock keeps running between them. Speed earns points, but a wrong tap is a slip that costs 20. Every rule hides a small trap, like Jun next to Jan or 12:10 AM after 11:50 PM, and after each task one line tells you what it was.

How to play
- Read the rule
- Every task has a new one: tap every match, or tap in order. The rule changes every time.
- Tap fast, tap right
- Tap the tiles or press 1 to 6. A wrong tap is a slip: −20, but the task goes on.
- Ten seconds each
- A task has up to 10 seconds, and the midnight clock keeps running. Time's up pays 10 per right tap.
- Beat midnight
- Up to 150 per task for speed. Get through all ten before midnight: +10 per second left.
Scoring
A finished task scores 50 plus up to 100 for speed; each wrong tap (a slip) costs 20. A task that runs out of time scores 10 per right tap.
Get through all ten tasks before the one-minute midnight clock runs out: +10 per second left.
What it trains
- Focus under pressure
- Staying precise while the clock runs down.
- Rule switching
- Dropping the last rule and following a new one every few seconds.
- Careful reading
- Catching small traps like Jun next to Jan, or 12:10 AM after 11:50 PM.
Strategy and tips
- Read the whole rule first
- Half a second on "after 11:30" saves a slip on 11:29.
- Two features, two checks
- For "gold star", check the colour and the shape on every tile.
- Let your eyes lead
- In order tasks, find the next tile before you tap the current one.
- Reset between tasks
- The last rule is gone. Clear it from your head when the new one appears.
- Use the number keys
- On a keyboard, 1 to 6 tap the tiles in reading order.
Why play Countdown Sprint?
Under time pressure, people skim the instructions and act on the last rule they remember. Countdown Sprint trains the opposite habit: reread, switch cleanly to the new rule, and stay precise while the clock runs. That's useful in exams, busy shifts and any task where speed tempts you to cut corners.
